Directed by Baz Luhrmann comes big screen spectacle Elvis, from Warner Bros. Pictures. With Austin Butler stepping into the blue suede shoes of the titular King of Rock and, Oscar winner Tom Hanks starring as his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker, this looks like it has the potential to be one of the biggest films of the year.
In the above newly-released clip, the magic of Elvis Presley is shown as the performer takes to the stage for what seems to be his defining moment, as he showcases his trademark wiggle and of course, a voice that would go on to live through multiple generations and truly stand the test of time.
Elvis was a man who not only had immense talent, but a way with the ladies. Here, his eccentricities are celebrated as he moves all over the stage and, only just manages to avoid being pulled into the crowd by a bunch of adoring female fans.
Elvis will be told through the eyes of the singer's manager, exploring the complicated dynamic that the two shared over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame against the evolving cultural landscape and, loss of innocence in America.
Also central to that story is one of the most influential people in Elvis' life, Priscilla Presley. She is played in the new movie by Olivia DeJonge.
Seeing Austin Butler as Elvis wasn’t something I was really prepared for. The actor embodies the music icon so well, that I felt as though I had stepped into a time machine and been transported right back to his earliest days, when he was discovered by Colonel Tom Parker.
With Butler and Tom Hanks taking centre-stage in this flick, and the incredible filmmaker Baz Luhrmann sitting in the director’s chair, I have no doubt that this movie is going to be a must-see as soon as it hits the big screen.
I for one will be booking a ticket as soon as possible to see if the film is capable of living up to the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody, when all is said and done.
Elvis comes to cinemas nationwide on June 24th, 2022 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
