Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen says that Godzilla really goes back to its roots.

Olsen will be back on the big screen later this month, as Godzilla makes a highly anticipated return.

Godzilla is the biggest film of Olsen's career to date, and is the first time that she has really tackled a role in a major blockbuster.

And while the film may be set in the present day, Olsen says the film has not forgotten where it has come from.

Speaking on Late Show with David Letterman, the actress said: "This film really roots it back to the reason it was created.

"A very much so political voice for Japan in 1934 post World War 2 and it's going back to that kind of conspiracy theory.

"But it's so much fun and I get to play a mother and military wife and a nurse - being a good caretaker."

Godzilla sees Olsen team up with director Gareth Edwards for the first time, while Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ken Watanabe are just some of the other names on the all-star cast list.

And Olsen will be sticking with the big budget blockbuster as she is currently filming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

She is set to play Scarlet Witch in the new film, as she reunites with Taylor-Johnson: he is set to play her brother Quicksilver.

Godzilla is released 15th May.
