Lionsgate have announced that the Eddie The Eagle biopic is set to hit the big screen 1st April 2016.
Eddie the Eagle is set to follow Eddie Edwards, the first British ski jumper to enter the Winter Olympics and will see Dexter Fletcher back in the director's chair.
This will be the third feature film for Fletcher after enjoying critical success with Wild Bill and Sunshine on Leith, however, this will be the first time that the actor turned director has tackled a biopic project.
Fletcher has brought together a terrific cast list as Taron Egerton is set to take on the central role of Eddie Edwards. Egerton has been the breakthrough star of 2015, with the success of Kingsman: The Secret Service, and he is one of the actors to keep an eye on next year.
Hugh Jackman is set to star as Edwards' coach Bronson Peary, while Christopher Walken, Jo Hartley, Tim McInnerny, Keith Allen, and Jim Broadbent are also on board.
Eddie the Eagle follows the realisation of the childhood dream of Michael Edwards (a.k.a Eddie), and his unflinching determination to become Great Britain's first Olympic ski-jumper.
Reluctantly aided by former ski-jumper Bronson Peary as his coach, Eddie is unwavering in his quest to reach the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. Eddie the Eagle is an uplifting, inspirational story that celebrates human spirit, passion, and one man's refusal to accept defeat.
I have been a huge fan of Fletcher's directing work so far and I cannot wait to see him tackle something completely different. He continues to show his versatility as a filmmaker - he has already brought us a crime/drama and a musical - and it is exciting to see him make the leap into the biopic.
Eddie The Eagle is released 1st April 2016.
