2015 is a year that has belonged to Redmayne as he picked up the award for his stunning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the moving biopic The Theory of Everything.

This was the first Oscar nomination for the British actor and he saw off competition from the likes of Michael Keaton, Steve Carell, Bradley Cooper, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Months on, it is still a shock to him.

Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, Redmayne said: "I still can't believe it exists. It just sort of sits there looking very shiny."

While Redmayne may be the proud owner of a Best Actor Oscar, he says he still produces 'shoddy' work on set from time to time.

He continued: "I think most actors are kind of brutally self-critical. So I came back from the Oscars and went straight into filming [new movie 'The Danish Girl']. I think I did some pretty shoddy work that day."

And the Oscar buzz is starting to surround Redmayne once again for his performance as Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery, in new film The Danish Girl.

The Danish Girl sees Redmayne reunite with Les Miserables filmmaker Tom Hooper and team up with Alicia Vikander for the first time.

Redmayne is tipped to be in the Best Actor race once again for his central performance and I really cannot wait to see the actor in action in this role. Could he be the first actor since Tom Hanks in the nineties to win two Best Actor Oscar back to back? I guess we are just going to have to wait and see.

It looks like the Best Actor race it going to be a tough one as Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp are just some of the other names that are being tipped as possible contenders.

As for Redmayne, he is currently filming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - the latest J.K Rowling adaptation - in which he will take on the central role of Newt Scamander. The movie is set to hit the big screen in November next year,

The Danish Girl is released 1st January 2016.
