Eddie Redmayne heaped praise on friend and fellow actor Benedict Cumberbatch after beating him to the Best Actor Bafta.
Redmayne made it three major award wins out of three over the weekend when he scooped the Best Actor gong for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
This awards season has seen Redmayne go head to head with pal Cumberbatch - who has been nominated for his role as Alan Turing in The imitation Game - and he has heaped praise on the actor.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor said: "Ben and I are old, old friends. I think he's the most staggering actor and wonderful human being and what he did in [The Imitation Game], what that film is, is utterly brilliant."
"I understand why the two films get connected, but to me they're completely different pieces and hopefully there's room for both. Well, there seems to be. The Imitation Game has done so sensationally around the world and continues to do breathtaking business.
Redmayne had already win the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance and is now the frontrunner for the Oscar - the winners will be announced later this month.
This marked the first nomination and win for Redmayne, as The Theory of Everything also won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best British Film.
The actor returned to the big screen over the weekend as he stars alongside Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in Jupiter Ascending, which sees Andy and Lana Wachowski back in the director's chair.
Redmayne is currently working on new film The Danish Girl, which sees him team up Amber Heard, Alicia Vikander, and Matthias Schoenaerts.
