Eddie Redmayne says he feels 'incredibly honoured' to have received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in The Theory of Everything.
It has been a terrific few days for Redmayne, who has followed up his Golden Globe win with his first Oscar nomination, as The Theory of Everything picked up five nominations.
Speaking about his nomination, the actor said: "I'm so incredibly honoured to be recognized by the Academy, and even more thrilled to share this honour with the entire family of filmmakers, cast, and crew of The Theory of Everything. This role was a once in a lifetime experience.
Congratulations to my fellow nominees, thank you to the Academy, and thank you most of all to Stephen and Jane Hawking."
As well as nomination success for Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Johann Johannsson and Anthony McCarten were nominated for Best Actress, Best Original Score and Best Adapted Screenplay, while the film is also in the mix for Best Picture.
Redmayne scooped the Best Actor, Drama Golden Globe at the weekend and it looks like it is going to be a two horse race for the Best Actor Oscar.
Redmayne and Michael Keaton for Birdman do seem to be the front runners, while Benedict Cumberbatch, Steve Carell, and Bradley Cooper were also nominated for The Imitation Game, Foxcatcher, and American Sniper.
Redmayne has also picked up nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Bafta Awards and missed out at the Critics Choice Awards last night - Keaton walked away with the Best Actor prize.
The Oscar winners will be announced 22nd February.
