Eddie Redmayne says it is a 'great privilege' to have been recognised by Bafta.
Redmayne has picked up a Best Actor Bafta nomination for his critically acclaimed central performance as Stephen Hawking in biopic The Theory of Everything.
This is the first Bafta nomination of Redmayne's career and the actor is thrilled to have had the opportunity to take on the role and be in the such a movie.
Speaking about his nomination, Redmayne said: "I am so proud to be a part of this film. It was a great privilege to get to play such an extraordinary man and to be recognised by Bafta means the world. I will be having a glass or 3 of something to celebrate."
The Theory of Everything follows the relationship between Stephen and his first wife jane after they meet at university and the challenges that his motor neuron disease poses.
The movie sees Redmayne team up with Felicity Jones for the first time, while James Marsh is in the director's chair. Jones was nominated for Best Actress & Marsh Best Director as the movie picked up ten Bafta nominations.
Redmayne will also be in the Best Actor Golden Globe mix tonight and is expected to pick up an Oscar nomination when they are announced later in the week.
Redmayne will be back on the big screen at the beginning of February as he is set to star alongside Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in Jupiter Ascending, which is directed by Andy and Lan Wachowski.
The Theory of Everything is out now.
