Shazam is set to be one of the DC Comic adaptations on the horizon over the next few years and is expected to be released in 2019.

Warner Bros is behind the film, and Johnson believes that we will see it on the big screen before the scheduled release date.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, the actor said: "No, I don't think it is going to be that far away. It's going to be earlier than that. I don't think [as late as] 2019."

Shazam currently has no director attached to it and Johnson is the only member of the cast to have officially been announced. However, we are going to see Johnson take on the role of Black Adam rather than the title role.

Shazam is one of a series of DC Comic book movies heading our way with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman being just some of the films that we are going to be treated to.

Johnson has already enjoyed hug success so far this year with Fast & Furious 7. The movie has grossed in excess of $1.4 billion and it the highest grossing movie of 2015 so far and currently the fourth highest grossing of all time.

Johnson is set to return to the big screen this week in new disaster movie San Andreas, in which he will play a rescue-chopper pilot who sets out to save his daughter.

The actor will be lending his voice to Disney movie Moana and will be coming to the small screen with television series Ballers.
