Donald Sutherland says he hopes that The Hunger Games could inspire a similar revolution in America.

Sutherland is back on the big screen this week as he takes on the role of President Snow in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - the second of Suzanne Collins' novels to be adapted for the big screen.

Catching Fire will see the people of Panem begin to rise up against an oppressive government, and Sutherland says he wants young people to stop being so obsessed with technology.

Speaking to The Guardian the actor said: "I hope that they will take action because it's getting drastic in this country [America].

"You know the young people of this society have not moved in the last 30 years. They have been consumed with telephones. Tweeting.

"Hopefully they will see this film and the next film and the next film and then maybe organise. Stand up."

Sutherland is not the only actor returning to the franchise as Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks are also back.

It has been a busy year for Sutherland as he has also completed work on The Calling, Forsaken and Basmati Blues.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released 21st November.
