Oyelowo was the talk of Hollywood at the beginning of the year for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr in Selma - a role and a movie that sent the actor's star rocketing.

And while Selma director Ava DuVernay has been linked to a role with a future Marvel project, Oyelowo admits that he has always 'tread with caution' around those types of roles.

Speaking to The Wrap, the actor said: "For me personally, I tread with caution around the notion of those kinds of characters.

"Depending on which one of them you're playing, there's always a danger you're going to get so identified with this larger-than-life character, that it could become tougher for audiences to believe you in other roles."

While Oyelowo is reluctant to join a superhero franchise himself, he has thrown his support behind DuVernay to land a directing job at Marvel. While no official announcement has been made, many have speculated that she could end up directing Doctor Strange.

As for Oyelowo, he has already completed work on Nina, Five Nights in Maine, and Captive. He is currently working on Queen of Katwe. The movie is based on the book by Tim Crothers and sees the actor team up with director Mira Nair.

Queen of Katwe will also star Lupita Nyong'o and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine and is set to hit the big screen next year.
