David Goyer has revealed that the initial idea for Man of Steel came to him as he was struggling to pen the script for The Dark Knight Rises.
Man of Steel sees Superman return to the big screen with Goyer writing the script and Christopher Nolan serving as producer.
But Goyer admits that getting him and Nolan involved in the project was just a huge accident.
Speaking to Collider the screenwriter said: "I was wasting time and procrastinating and took out an archive edition of some of the original Superman comic books and started re-reading them because I couldn't figure out this plot point on Dark Knight Rises."
"Because Chris likes to procrastinate as well he said 'let's hear it', so I told him.
"And he literally called Jeff Robinov, who's the head of Warner Bros, while I was sitting there and said, 'Jeff, Dave just told me this take on Superman and you need to hear it, I'd like to produce it. Can we come in?'
"And we went in the next day. That's how it happened. No, we weren't trying to do it, it just happened."
It has been seven years since Superman last graced the big screen and this time Henry Cavill has taken over the lead role.
Zack Snyder is in the director's chair while Amy Adams and Russell Crowe are just a couple of other names on the cast list.
Man of Steel is released 14th June.
