Darren Aronofsky has called turning the story of Noah a ‘big challenge’.
Aronofsky is set to return to the director’s chair in the new year as he brings biblical epic Noah to the big screen. The movie will see Aronofsky team up with Oscar winner Russell Crowe for the first time - as he takes on the title role.
And the director says that he was looking for the ‘human drama’ within the story that we all know so well.
Speaking to Empire, the director said: “It’s a story that has never really been honestly tackled in a movie. It’s kind of the first apocalypse story, which is interesting. The third story in the Bible is Adam and Eve, then Cain and Abel and then Noah.
“So it goes from the creation of life to its destruction in three stories. It’s an amazing canvas to start with, and trying to turn it into a film is a big challenge, trying to find a real human drama within that.”
Noah is the first directorial outing for Aronofsky since the success of Black Swan, and he has brought together an impressive cast that also includes Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Logan Lerman and Emma Watson.
Man of Steel was the last time that we saw Crowe on the big screen and Noah and A New York Winter’s Tale are his two new year projects.
Noah is released 28th March 2014.
