Daniel Radcliffe had his bum waxed using a technique called sugaring when he was cast in 'Equus' - a stage role that required him to be nude - in 2007.

The 24-year-old star used a technique called sugaring to remove his "arse hair" when he had to strip off naked for stage play 'Equus' in 2007 which he performed on London's West End and on Broadway in New York City.

The "painful" technique involves a combination of products like honey, lemon juice and sugar which are applied to the skin and pulled off along with the hair.

"When I first did 'Equus' I was very self conscious about arse hair, so I made the ill fated decision to have it removed via a process called sugaring.

"[It was] f***ing painful. I had it done once and I no longer care about my hairy arse! But it's not as bad as you'd think. I'm probably only a six on the arse." He told EMPIRE magazine:

Daniel was catapulted into the spotlight as boy wizard Harry Potter in the film franchise - based on J.K. Rowling's children's books - and since he left the role he has made it his mission to prove he is a talented actor and not just a child star who got lucky.

The star thinks his part in 'Equus' - in which he played 17-year-old suburban stable boy Alan Strang - was "important" and it helped show off his acting prowess.

He previously said: "Doing 'Equus' was important. It showed people that I wasn't just here to capitalise on the 'Potter' fame for as long as I could. I think ultimately, I'm ambitious because I want to prove everyone wrong who thinks that it's impossible to emerge from 'Harry Potter' and do well."
