Dane DeHaan makes Life After Beth more 'believable' according to director Jeff Baena.
Baena is making his feature film directorial debut with the new comedy - a movie that sees DeHaan really tackle this genre for the first time.
Speaking to Collider, the director said: "Most of the actors in the film are comedic actors, except for Dane who is a generally dramatic actor.
"I think that casting a dramatic actor in that part grounded it more and it raised the stakes and made it a little bit more believable. As the world is kind of going crazy we at least have this touchstone of someone we can relate to."
Life After Beth brings together a fantastic cast as DeHaan is joined by Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza and John C. Reilly.
The film is based on Plaza's character, schoolgirl Beth, returning to life after she died in a hiking accident and her boyfriend Zach is shocked but delighted when he finds she's back.
DeHaan is one of the actors to watch out for this year, as he is also set to star in The Amazing Spider Man 2.
Earlier this month it was revealed that DeHaan was in the running for the Rising Star Award at the Bafta, and was nominated alongside George MacKay, Lupita Nyong’o, Will Poulter and Lea Seydoux.
Life After Beth is released later this year.
