Ridley is currently caught up in the whirlwind that has been Star Wars: The Force Awakens - which has opened to acclaim and massive box office success.

The twenty three year old actress takes on the role of Rey as she steps into the Star Wars universe and the big budget blockbuster for the first time.

And while Star Wars: The Force Awakens couldn't be more different to Casualty, Ridley says that both projects are trying to achieve the same thing.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, she said: "Every production, whether it's student or blockbuster, involves a group of people trying to tell a story. So in that respect, it's not far away from what else I've done.

"Obviously, 'Casualty' doesn't have Wookies and stuff but I was still trying to do the truthful thing in that, as I was in this."

The role of Rey is the biggest role of Ridley's acting career to date as she joins John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, and Domhnall Gleeson as some of the new faces in the iconic and much-loved franchise.

The Force Awakens sees J.J. Abrams in the director's chair, while Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher have returned to the franchise as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia.

The movie has been breaking box office records around the world since it was released at the end of last week. It looks set to comfortably reach the $1 billion mark and will become the fifth film of 2015 to achieve this; Jurassic World, Fast & Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Minions are the others.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have only just hit the big screen, but Episode VIII is already in the pipeline and is expected to start filming next year.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out now.
