Dad's Army is one of the most loved British television programmes of all time and next year a brand new feature film is coming to the big screen. The first teaser poster for the film has arrived.
Oliver Parker has taken over the director's chair for what will be his first directorial outing since Johnny English Reborn back in 2011.
Dad's Army, which was created by David Croft, is one of the most enduring TV series and I can't wait to see it given a bit of a makeover with a brand new cast taking over these wonderful characters.
Toby Jones will lead that cast as Captain Mainwaring, while Bill Nighy, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Blake Harrison, Danny Mays, and Bill Paterson star as Sergeant Wilson, Corporal Jones, Private Godfrey, Private Pike, Private Walker, and Private Fraser.
The cast is completed by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sarah Lancashire, Mark Gatiss, Alison Steadman, and Annette Crosbie. Ian Lavender played Pike in the original TV series and he will be on the cast list as Brigadier Pritchard.
It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then - to patrol the Dover army base - is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert.
MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea. There's a spy on the loose! The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.
Dad's Army is set to be the British movie not to miss next year and I cannot wait to see this great cast in action. Dad's Army will pay homage to the original TV series, while bring these great characters to a new generation.
Dad's Army is released 5th February 2016.
