Clint Eastwood was the right choice to direct Jersey Boys according to the film’s producer Graham King.
Eastwood perhaps was not the obvious choice to bring the hit Broadway musical to the big screen, but King was certain that he had the right man for the job.
Speaking to Empire magazine, King said: "I knew he had this musical background and that's what made him perfect for 'Jersey Boys'.
"He'd been struggling to set up 'A Star is Born' and within 48 hours of receiving 'Jersey Boys', he called me and said he loved it. He hadn't even seen the show at that point, so I recommended he go and check it out, so he did and that was when he decided he had to make it. It really was as easy as that.
"He works very quickly; it's been amazing to see his process. He first read the script in March and here we are in December with a finished movie."
Jersey Boys will be the first big screen musical that Eastwood has directed as he returns to the director’s chair for the first time since J. Edgar.
Jersey Boys is a rags-to-riches tale of the rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, a show that has been a hit on both Broadway and in the West End.
And King has cast actors who have played these roles on Broadway, rather than casting film actors in the roles.
Filming has been completed on the film and it will hit the big screen later this year.
