Christina Applegate has revealed that she is keen to do a third Anchorman film and would work on a new project as early as next year.

Applegate returned to the big screen this weekend as she reprised the role of Veronica Corningstone in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: a film that comes nearly ten years after the first.

Anchorman 2 is one of the most anticipated films of 2013, and Applegate says she doesn’t want to wait so long to make a third movie

Speaking to Access Hollywood the actress said:

"I don't want to wait nine years [like between the first two films]. I would do it next year if I could."

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues sees Applegate reunite with Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell as they all reprise their roles from the first film. Adam McKay has also returned to the director’s chair.

This is the first movie outing for Applegate since Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, in which she lent her voice to the character of Brittany. She has been concentrating on TV work this year with series Up All Night.

She is currently working on another animation film The Book of Life, with Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana and Ron Perlman.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is out now.
