Chris Pine says that tackling a Jack Ryan that was a post 9/11 character was something that was interesting to him.
Pine is set to take over the role of Jack Ryan as the popular literary character is brought back to the big screen in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
The actor was in London last night for the European premiere of the film alongside Kenneth Branagh and Keira Knightley.
Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst on the red carpet, he said: "He is a Jack Ryan that is very much of post 9/11; he was a guy who came of age after the towers were hit. That was interesting to me.
"It was interesting to me to see a guy who serves and got injured. What was it like to suffer from PTSD and then to serve again? I think that does set the character apart from other heroes."
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit sees Pine team up with director Branagh for the first time; Branagh is on the cast list as well as being in the director's chair.
The movie brings together an all-star cast as Knightley and Kevin Costner join Pine and Branagh.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is released 24th January.
