Chris Evans says that as long as directors keep on 'reinventing the flavour' of superhero movies, then genre with continue to be successful.

The superhero genre is one that has dominated the box office over the last few years but, only last week, director Steven Spielberg warned that these types of movies would go the way of the Western.

However, Evans, who is set to reprise the role of Captain America in Civil War next year, says it is important to keep moving the genre forward and to give audiences something different with each film.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "In terms of superhero in general, existing properties that we know and love, it's going to be a matter of the tone they strike. You could look at Jason Bourne as a superhero. You could take any superhero movie and if you ground it enough, if you make it real enough - that's what I think [Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo] do really well.

"Certain superhero movies feel like 'superhero movies.' Russo movies almost feel like human stories with a little bit of superhero sprinkled in. So you might get exhausted of the larger-than-life powers I suppose, but as long as the filmmakers keep on reinventing the flavor and the approach and the tone, audiences are going to still go."

Evans has enjoyed huge success as Captain America with The First Avenger, The Winter Solider, Avengers Assemble and Avengers: Age of Ultron all hitting the big screen since 2009.

Age of Ultron was the last outing for the actor in the role and the movie grossed over $1 billion at the box office earlier this year.

Filming has already wrapped on Civil War, which will be the third solo movie for the popular character. The movie sees Anthony and Joe Russo return to the director's chair and will see the Avengers divided and going head to head for the first time.

Evans is also set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, which the Russo's will also direct. The two Avengers films will see Evans complete his contract with Marvel but he revealed earlier this week that he is keen to resign and carry on making movies with the studio.

Captain America: Civil War will be the first of two Marvel films to be released next year; we will be introduced to Doctor Strange for the first time next autumn. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Thor: Ragnarok, and a new Spider-Man film are also on the horizon.

However, it is not just Marvel/Disney that are pumping out superhero films as we are also going to see Deadpool, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Suicide Squad released next year.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April 2016.
