Chris Evans has revealed that he has signed on to star in six Marvel movies.

The actor took on the role of Captain America for the first time in 2011 in Captain America: The First Avenger and returned to the big screen last summer in Avengers Assemble.

While the actor has four more films to make he says that Marvel originally wanted him to sign on for nine movies.

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "We got six, which was good because initially it was nine. "I was like, 'I can't do nine'. But even six - you can do six over ten years. It is a big commitment."

"[Marvel Studios] are not going to do bad movies," he added. "I love being the character, I love being a part of the team, and it is the best. If you have to be under a six-picture contract, you can't find a better one."

Evans is currently filming a second stand alone film for Steve Rodgers as work on Captain America: The Winter Solider is well underway.

The movie will see him reunite with Scarlett Johansson, who will be reprising the role of Black Widow in the film.

But there are some exciting new additions to the cast this time around as Robert Redford and Anthony Mackie are also on board.

Evans is also expected to reprise the role of Rodgers for the second Avengers movie - that will begin filming next year.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is released 4th April.
