Chris Pine has revealed that it was the 'juxtaposition' of the two male characters in This Means War that drew him to the script.
The actor teams up with Tom Hardy as two spies who put their friendship to the test when they both fall for the same girl, played by Reese Witherspoon.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "I wanted to be involved because I really enjoyed the idea of 2 spies who are highly successful, proficient and capable in this incredibly serious filed of work they've chosen.
"But who then also act like children as soon as they're around a woman they like!
"I thought that kind of juxtaposition was funny and that there would be room for great comedy there."
This Means War is the first movie for Pine since Unstoppable and it also marks the return of McG to the director's chair.
The actor has also lent his voice to Rise of the Guardians and is set to reprise the role of Kirk in a Star Trek sequel.
This Means War is released 2nd March.
