Joss Whedon has revealed that The Avengers will be told from the perspective of Captain America.

The movie sees Chris Evans reprise the role of Steve Rodgers, after enjoying huge success in a standalone movie last year, as a whole host of Marvel heroes are brought together.

And while he is joined by Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and The Hulk it's through Rodger's eyes the story will be told.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Whedon said: "So much of [The Avengers] story takes place from Steve Rogers' perspective, since he's the guy who just woke up and sees this weird-ass world.

"Everyone else has been living in it. He's the guy that feels that sense of loss.

"[The Avengers] is very much about people who are alone - because I'm writing it.

"There is an anachronism to him, and Chris and I have always tried to, without making it goofy or too obvious, make him that same grounded '40s Steve Rogers he was in the other movie."

Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson are all on the cast list from what is set to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2012.

The Avengers is released 27th April.
