Chiwetel Ejiofor has described winning the Best Actor Bafta as a ‘deep honour’.
Ejiofor was nominated for his extraordinary performance as Solomon Northup in 12 Years A Slave, as saw off the likes of Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Dern and Christian Bale to win his first film Bafta award.
And the actor admits that it really I thrilling to be recognised at him home award ceremony.
Speaking to FemaleFirst in the press conference, the actor said: “It is an incredible feeling actually. I have been acting for a hole now, I have presented a Bafta and been nominated for the Rising Star Award.
“I have always been thrilled and excited by Bafta and what it means in the film and television industry. To be here in London, and to be with so many of my peers and my friends, and for them to recognise this film and me in this way is an extraordinary feeling. It is a great and deep honour.”
Ejiofor has already been nominated for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award for his performance, and is in the running for the Oscar.
It was a great night for 12 Years A Slave as the Steve McQueen directed feature was also named Best Film.
As for Ejiofor, he will be back on the big screen next month with the adaptation of the novel Half of a Yellow Sun.
He is currently filming Z For Zachariah with Chris Pine and Margot Robbie, and is directed by Craig Zobel.
