Ejiofor is back on the big screen this week as he teams up with Scott for the first time for sci-fi film The Martian, which is an adaptation of the Andy Weir novel of the same name.

The Oscar winner says that when stepping onto a Ridley Scott set, you are stepping into the imagination of the director describing it as a 'dynamic' and 'interesting' place to be.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "Well Ridley creates a very immersive world, so when you walk up to a Ridley Scott film set you're in Ridley Scott's imagination, and it's a really comfortable, cool place to be [Laughs]. It's a very dynamic place to be and an interesting place to be and a very thoughtful place to be, so I think all of the sets, everything around you when you're working on a movie with Ridley Scott is just incredibly well thought through.

"And that allows actors to kind of play and run free and experiment and not worry about failing, not worry about it not working or something, but to see what's there and play with it and he's very supportive and collaborative."

Ejiofor is part of an impressive ensemble cast as The Martian sees him star alongside Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Sean Bean, and Kate Mara.

The Martian kicks off a busy period for the actor as he has also finished work on Triple 9 and Secret in Their Eyes and is about to start work on Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange is the latest Marvel movie and will see Ejiofor take on the role of Baron Mordo alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, and Rachel McAdams.

As for The Martian, the movie has already been whipping up a storm on the festival circuit and is being tipped as a possible Oscar contender. It looks like it could have a huge chance of being in the running for Best Picture.

The Martian is out now.
