Chiwetel Ejiofor has described 12 Years A Slave a movie that shows how hard it is to break a man's spirit.
Ejiofor will return to the big screen in the new year as he teams up with director Steve McQueen for this hard hitting project.
The movie is based on the true story of Solomon Northup - a free black man who was sold into slavery.
And Ejiofor says that this movie is about the strength and endurance of that man.
Speaking to Flicks and Bits the actor said: "It's a story about how hard it is to break a man's spirit, about what tremendous reserves a man has.
"Solomon witnessed one of the harshest structures in the history of the world, and survived with his mind intact."
"For me, it was an extraordinary experience to be part of telling this story and one of the most challenging roles of my career. I knew it was going to be physically, emotionally and psychologically difficult."
12 Years A Slave has been one of the most talked about films of the autumn, as it has lit up the festival circuit. And more praise it going to be heading its way this week as it is set to screen at the BFI London Film Festival as part of the Accenture Gala.
Ejiofor takes on the role of Northup in the film and is joined on the cast list by Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch and Paul Giamatti.
12 Years A Slave is released 24th January 2014.
