Meryl Streep is set to return to the big screen this May as she takes on the title role in new comedy biopic Florence Foster Jenkins.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Streep is no stranger to a biopic role with the likes of The Iron Lady and Suffragette already under her belt. Florence Foster Jenkins sees her team up with filmmaker Stephen Frears for the first time - who is no stranger to a biopic film project himself.

Frears has already brought us movies such as The Queen and Philomena and this is his first feature film since The Program last year.

I am looking forward to seeing Streep take on the role of the eccentric Florence and she features in some great new images:

However, it is not all about Streep as a great cast has been assembled around her with Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson, John Kavanagh, Nina Arianda, and Christian McKay all set to star.

Florence Foster Jenkins tells the inspirational true story of the eponymous New York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The film celebrates the human spirit, the power of music and the passion of amateurs everywhere.

The voice Florence (Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world, it was hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield (Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give her first public concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, St Clair realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.

It looks like Streep is going to deliver another terrific performance and I really cannot wait to see her in action.

Florence Foster Jenkins is released 6th May.
