Charlie Hunnam has apparently walked away from the role of Christian Grey because he was 'overwhelmed' by the attention that has come his way.
It was announced last month that Hunnam and Dakota Johnson would be taking on the role of Grey and Anastasia Steele in the big screen adaptation of Fifth Shades of Grey - which will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
Since the announcement a lot of media attention has surrounded the actor as this is one of the most anticipated films of 2014.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the British actor walked away from the role because of all of the frenzy that followed his casting.
Universal announced Hunnam's decision to quit over the weekend and said in a statement: "The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule, which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
Sons of Anarchy is the show that has really propelled Hunnam to fame. Season six premiered last month and a seventh season is in the pipeline.
Hunnam enjoyed big screen success this summer as he lead an all star cast in Guillermo Del Toro's blockbuster Pacific Rim.
Movies Triple Nine and Crimson Peak are also in the pipeline: the latter is set to reunite him with del Toro.
