Carey Mulligan says that she is 'living this incredible dream' with the acting opportunities that have come her way in her career so far.
Mulligan has returned to the big screen this weekend as she takes on the central role of Bathsheda Everdene in the adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel Far From the Madding Crowd - it is the first time that we have seen her in a film in over a year.
And while Mulligan set out to just make a living through acting, she has been on an 'extraordinary journey' over the last few years that has turned her into one of the most in demand and respected actresses around.
Speaking to Psychologies magazine, the actress said: "I'm still exhilarated by the experience of acting with immensely talented people, many of whom I've grown up admiring.
"I started out simply wanting to earn my living acting, and now I feel like I'm living this incredible dream. I never expected this and I never had any grand aspirations beyond finding the net job, so all of this has been an extraordinary journey for me."
Far From the Madding Crowd sees Mulligan team up with director Thomas Vinterberg for the first time, while Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge, and Juno Temple make up a terrific supporting cast.
Far From The Madding Crowd is the first of two major movies that we are going to see Mulligan star in this year - the other being the already highly anticipated drama Suffragette.
Directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan, Suffragette is set to follow the foot soldiers of the feminism movement as they fought for the vote and equality. Mulligan is set to take on the role of Maud in the film, while Meryl Streep is on board as Emmeline Pankhurst.
Helena Bonham Carter, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson, Romola Garai, Anne-Marie Duff, and Samuel West will all also star alongside Mulligan and Streep.
Suffragette will see Mulligan team up with Gavron for the first time as she returns to the director's chair for the first time since documentary Village at the End of the World back in 2013 - this is her first live action film since she made her feature film directorial debut with Brick Lane.
Far From The Madding Crowd is out now. Suffragette is released 30th October.
