Joe Russo has described the relationship between Captain America and Bucky in Civil War as a 'love story.'

Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are set to reprise the roles in the third solo Captain America film, which will see the story between the two characters developed even further.

Speaking to Empire, the director said: "What's fascinating about the Cap-Bucky story as well is it's a love story.

"These are two guys who grew up together, and so they have that same emotional connection to each other as brothers would, and even more so because Bucky was all Steve [Rogers] had growing up."

Captain America: Civil War will see Joe and Anthony Russo back in the director's chair for their second Captain America film; the duo steered The Winter Solider to critical and commercial success back in 2014.

Civil War looks set to be even bigger than its predecessor and will kick off Phase 3 of Marvel movies in terrific style - this is the film that I am looking forward to the most this year.

Evans and Stan are joined on the cast list by Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, and Tom Holland.

This will be the first time that we have seen Evans take on the role of Captain America since the billion dollar success of Avengers: Age of Ultron. We haven't seen Stan in this role since The Winter Solider two years ago.

Civil War looks on course to be the most successful Captain America movie yet... could it go on to become the third Marvel film to gross over $1 billion at the global box office? I guess we are going to have to wait and see.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April.
