Bryan Singer has revealed that X-Men: Days of Future Past will fix some elements from X-Men: The Last Stand.

Singer returns to an X-Men movie for the first time since X-2 and while the major focus of the new film is not to fix issues with X-3 it will address some of those issues.

Singer did not return to helm The Last Stand as he went to work on Superman Returns and Brett Ratner eventually replaced him.

But now he is back in the chair for the sequel to X-Men: First Class.

Speaking to Bleeding Cool the director said: "I said I'll 'fix a few things'. It won't be its primary function but there will be some fixing.

"It's a really cool story, and incidentally, it facilitates all of these characters. They weren't just thrown in there. And they all play a fun role.

"I want there to be some humour and some fun. I want to keep that humour [because] the thing about X-Men is that the themes are serious, but the film doesn't need to be..."

"There are parts of X-Men 3... it isn't what I would have done, but parts of it, I liked.

"There was a lot going on in it and I wasn't so happy with so many people dying, but then there were some really sweet moments."

A terrific cast has been assembled as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence all reprise their roles from the first film.

And old favourites such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman will also be back.

Filming is set to get underway later this year for a summer 2014 release.
