Brad Pitt says he is proud to have been a part of the Solomon Northup story with 12 Years A Slave.
Pitt stars in the big screen adaptation of Solomon Northup’s slavery memoir as well as serving as a producer on the film. 12 Years A Slave scooped the Best Film prize at the Baftas last weekend.
Speaking at a press conference at the Baftas, the actor said: "We are just so proud of the film, to be a part of Solomon Northup's story and we know what the film means and what the film means to us and me as a personal experience and what it may mean to others in 10 years, 20 years.
“We are very proud of our work here because of the people that we got to work with from the actors to the crew.
“And it is a wonderful validation for all of that but most of all, you know, it's a story that says we're all the same and that freedom and our dignity is everything and that is what we must fight for, so we're very proud."
12 Years a Slave has been met with critical acclaim since it started playing on the festival circuit at the back end of last year. It has gone on to enjoy box office success since it was released in January.
12 Years A Slave is also nominated for a string of Academy Awards; including Best Picture, Best Director for Steve McQueen and a trio of acting gongs.
The film is the favourite to scoop the Best Picture Oscar, but will face some tough competition from the equally acclaimed Gravity.
As for Pitt, we will next see him back on the big screen in World War II drama Fury, a movie that sees him team up with director David Ayer.
