Brad Bird has revealed that he is three-quarters of the way through the first draft of the script for The Incredibles 2.
It was announced earlier this year that The Incredibles 2 was finally going to happen and Bird was back on board to pen the screenplay and direct the already highly anticipated film.
It was back in 2004 when The Incredibles hit the big screen for the first time and it remains one of the most popular of Pixar's movies.
Bird is currently working on the screenplay for the film and admits - sadly, without giving anything away - that he has the story arc already in place.
Speaking to Collider, the director said: "I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it. I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it."
Since the success of The Incredibles, Bird went on to also direct Pixar film Ratatouille before moving into live action movies in the last couple of year. He helmed Mission:Impossible - Ghost Protocol before returning to the director's chair earlier this year with Tomorrowland: A World Beyond.
When The Incredibles first hit the big screen, thee were not as many superhero movies as we see now and Bird says that they are trying to make sure that their film is not going to 'trot over the same turf' as the other films in this genre.
He continued: "But what's changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out. One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there's a new superhero movie every two weeks.
"What you don't want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we're trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we're having a good time."
At the moment, there is still no word on the cast but we are expecting Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter to reprise their roles as Bob and Helen Parr aka Mr Incredible and Elastigirl. Whether we will see Samuel L. Jackson return as Frozon remains to be seen.
No official release date for The Incredibles 2 has yet been announced.
