Danner plays lonely widow and former songstress Carol Petersen in the comedy/drama alongside Sam Elliott, Martin Starr, Malin Akerman and Rhea Perlman which sees her character embark on a fresh start in life.
The cast stormed through their schedule in less than three weeks, and despite Blythe's worries she wouldn't have the "stamina" to front the project, she was thrilled with how it turned out.
Blythe - who is the mother of Gwyneth Paltrow - told the Metro newspaper: "I wasn't sure I had the stamina - I've never carried a film before. I've had leads on stage but never in a film. But they were very considerate, shooting no more than 12 hours a day and with weekends off, even though we shot in 18 days."
Blythe has been a widow since her husband of 33 years Bruce Paltrow died in 2002.
She was thrilled to land the role of Carol in the movie, as good roles are hard to find now she's in her 70s.
Asked about what future projects she has coming up, Blythe - who starred in the 'Meet the Parents' franchise alongside Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller - said: "No, I don't think I'll ever get as wonderful a role as this one in 'I'll See You In My Dreams'. It was a gift for my 50th year in the business."
