Exploring the origins of the DC character for the first time in a feature film, Black Adam will see the titular hero freed from his earthly tomb nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the powers of the ancient gods.
Dwayne Johnson takes on the mantle of the anti-hero, but just how will he be able to adapt to modern living, the expectations that come from crime-fighting superheroes and, exactly how modern-day justice is dished out?
An all-star cast also includes Aldis Hodge (City on a Hill) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (Rush Hour 3) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (The Mummy) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui (A Million Little Things) as Armon and, Pierce Brosnan (Mamma Mia!) as Dr. Fate.
Juame Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) takes on the role of director, working on a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Producers included Beau Flynn, Hiram and Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Chris Pan, Eric McLeod, Geoff Johns and Scott Sheldon.
Johnson had confirmed in May (2022) that some reshoots were taking place on Black Adam via his Instagram account, which is likely a big part of the reason why the film was pushed back three months from its original release date of July 2022.
Filming had come to a close at the end of 2021, with post-production starting a few months later.
Both The Flash and Aquaman 2 are slated to also drop at some point in 2022, but with the recent furore surrounding actors Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them pushed back to allow time for some changes to be made. It’s possible that The Flash could be shelved entirely, if allegations from two concerned parents about their teenage daughter’s supposed relationship with Miller are proven to be warranted.
Black Adam comes to cinemas across the UK on October 21st, 2022 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
