Bill Condon would welcome Lindsay Lohan with open arms to play Ariel in the live adaptation of 'Little Mermaid'.
The 30-year-old actress has begged Disney - the company behind her breakout role in 1998's 'The Parent Trap' - to cast her as the flame-haired princess in the upcoming remake of the all-singing all-dancing animated children's film, and now the 'Beauty and the Beast' filmmaker has responded saying he would like to have her in the lead part.
Asked about her plea, he told Vulture magazine, he said: "I know! It was sweet, It was very sweet of her. I hope she gets to make that movie.
"I feel like I was so lucky in getting this crown jewel, but I'll see her in 'Little Mermaid', absolutely."
Last month, the 'Freaky Friday' star uploaded a collage of herself alongside Ariel and accompanied it with: "I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid (sic)"
But she wasn't just trying to bag herself a job with the movie giant, as she also requested that her sister Ali sing the theme tune and Bill Condon be director, while fitness expert Kristen Graham is cast as antagonist Ursula.
She added: "@disney approve that #billcondon directs it along with my sister @alianamusic singing the theme song for the soundtrack. also @kgrahamsfb plays Ursula. Simply because, she is the best. ake one. @disneystudios (sic)"
It was revealed in May last year that Disney had selected 'The Little Mermaid' to be its next animation to get the live action following the release of 2010's 'Alice in Wonderland', 2014's 'Maleficent' - based on 'Sleeping Beauty' - and 2015's 'Cinderella'.
But, since then, details on the production have been few and far between, although it is believed Lin-Manuel Miranda will work with Oscar-winning songwriter Alan Menken on the music.
The soundtrack will feature a mix of pre-existing songs from Disney's classically animated take on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale.
Marc Platt will produce the film with Miranda working under Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.
Miranda is known to be a huge fan of the animated film - which tells the story of mermaid Ariel who dreams of becoming a human - and named his newborn son Sebastian after the crab character.
