Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to star in 'The Lost City of Z'.
The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor is in negotiations for the lead role in James Gray's new film, based on David Grann's nonfiction book documenting Amazonian explorer Percy Fawcett's deadly obsession with discovering a lost city in the rainforest.
Fawcett disappeared in 1925, along with his son, after trekking through the Amazon to gather evidence to support his claims a mysterious city, which he dubbed the Lost City of Z, existed within the heart of the rainforest.
The film will be produced by Brad Pitt through his Plan B company, along with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas.
Pitt has reportedly been developing the project for several years and at one point even considered starring in the movie himself.
Cumberbatch's star in Hollywood has been rising of late after breaking out in the role of Sherlock Holmes in BBC's modern day adaptation of 'Sherlock'.
The actor will next be seen in period drama '12 Years a Slave' with Pitt and Michael Fassbender; 'The Fifth Estate', in which he plays Wikileaks founder Julian Assange; and he will also voice Smaug the dragon in the next 'Hobbit' film.
