Ben Whishaw

Ben Whishaw has revealed that he initially turned down the chance to voice Paddington in the new movie.

Whishaw will bring the iconic character of Paddington to life in the Paul King directed movie - taking over from Colin Firth after he stepped down from the role after coming to realise his voice wasn't right for the character.

But Whishaw reveals that he almost missed out on the chance after worrying that he too wouldn't be right for the role.

Speaking to Marie Claire magazine, the actor said: "I said no the first time. I just thought, I'm not very good at doing voices, I can't do it and I don't think I'll be right for it."

When asked why he changed his mind, Whishaw continued: "[Director] Paul King sent me a very sweet note asking me to reconsider.

"I had imagined I'd just be putting my voice to something but they actually filmed my face and mouth and took footage of my movements so there was a blending of me and the bear.

"I tried a few different things with my voice and over time realised that it should sound like I do in real life."

Whishaw has lent his voice to the movie, while Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Peter Capaldi, and Julie Walters makes up a terrific and hugely talented cast list.

And we are going to be seeing plenty of Whishaw on the big screen heading into 2015, as he has already completed work on In the Heart of the Sea, Suffragette, and The Lobster.

The actor is set to reprise the role of Q in Bond 24, which is set to hit the big screen at the end of next year. This will be the second Bond movie for Whishaw, after being introduced in Skyfall in 2012.

Paddington is released 28th November.
