Affleck is set to take over the role of Bruce Banner for the first time next year in the highly anticipated Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

His casting did cause some major backlash when it was announced last year and Affleck himself thought it was a 'strange way' to bring Batman back to the big screen.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said: "At the time I was 40, 41, and had just finished Argo, and I felt like 'This seems like a strange way to get to Batman'. But Zack convinced me.

"He [Bruce Wayne] really keeps up the image of the playboy, actively. So you have more of a dichotomy which I thought was really fun, and a little sad, like the ageing playboy."

Dawn of Justice will mark the first time that Affleck has teamed up with Snyder, who returns to the director's chair for the first time since Man of Steel.

The movie will see Henry Cavill reprise the role of Superman, while we will be introduced to Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Jesse Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Lex Luthor.

Affleck hasn't been introduced as Batman yet but we already know that he will be making an appearance in Suicide Squad and a Justice League movie is on the horizon.

We haven't seen Affleck on the big screen since the success of Gone Girl but he has already completed work on The Accountant.

The Accountant sees Gavin O'Connor back in the director's chair, while Affleck teams up with Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow, and Jeffrey Tambor.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March 2016.
