Dawn of Justice is one of the most anticipated comic book movies of 2016 and fans have flocked to sees Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck go head to head on the first weekend that the film has been on release.

Cavill reprises the role of Superman in the film while Affleck is the latest actor to take over the role of Batman - following in the footsteps of Christian Bale and Michael Keaton. The movie sees Zack Snyder - who steered Man of Steel to success in 2013 - back in the director's chair.

Zootropolis, which has spent three weeks at the top of the U.S. box office, had to make way for Dawn of Justice this week, slipping just a single place to number two. Zootropolis is the latest offering from Disney and took a further $23 million over the weekend. The movie has now grossed over $697 million at the global box office.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week, as the comedy sequel opened at number two. It was over a decade since we met the Portokalos family for the first time and the film sees Nia Vardalos back as Toula and has penned the screenplay.

Miracles from Heaven was down one place at four while The Divergent Series: Allegiant slipped three spots from two to this week's number five as it continues to struggle at the box office. 10 Cloverfield Lane slipped out of the top five as it dropped two places to number six.

The movie has been met with acclaim and is one of the best sci-fi films of the year so far.
