Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has stormed to the top of the UK box office with the largest every opening weekend for a superhero movie.
Dawn of Justice is one of the most anticipated films of the year as Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent go head to head for the first time with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the starring roles.
The reviews for the film may not be great, but that has not stopped fans flocking in their droves to see the latest DC Comic film. The movie took £14.6 million in its opening weekend to see off the challenge from Disney's Zootropolis.
The movie has already grossed over $468 million worldwide and is well on course to challenge Deadpool as the highest grossing film of 2016 so far.
Zootropolis, which has already topped the U.S. box office and grossed over $711 million worldwide, had to settle for second as it took £5.3 million in its opening weekend on release.
Zootropolis is the fifty-fifth animated feature from Disney and the first since the success of Big Hero 6 at the beginning of last year. Disney's run of hit movies continues as Zootropolis has been met with acclaim as well as box office success.
Kung Fu Panda 3 slipped two places this week after a fortnight at the top of the UK box office. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was the third and final new entry inside the top ten, as the comedy sequel opened at number four.
10 Cloverfield Lane was a three place faller this week as the sci-fi hit slipped from two to this week's number five. London Has Fallen dropped out of the top five for the first time as it slipped two places from last week's number three.
The Boy was down two at seven while The Divergent Series: Allegiant continued to slide - falling from four to number eight. It could well slip out of the top ten next week after less then a month.
High-Rise was also down as it dropped from six to nine. Deadpool may have become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, but that did not stop it from falling three to this week's number ten.
