Ava DuVernay is believed to possibly be joining the Marvel universe to direct one of the upcoming movies.
DuVernay has already had an incredible year with the success of Martin Luther King drama Selma - which was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Picture.
Now The Wrap has revealed the Marvel are possibly circling DuVernay to bring her on board. She could be at the helm of Black Panther or Captain Marvel as neither of them has a filmmaker attached at the moment.
Should DuVernay come on board, she would be the first woman to direct a Marvel film. Black Panther and Captain Marvel are two of the new franchises on the horizon over the next couple of years and are set to hit the big screen in 2018.
As DuVernay is possibly on the verge of joining the Marvel directing family, Joss Whedon is set to step away for a while after helming Avengers Assemble and Avengers: Age of Ultron over the last few years.
Moving forward, there are a mix of new faces and familiar names behind the camera as the next Phase of Marvel films is set to get underway.
Anthony and Joe Russo are back to direct Captain America: Civil War - they helmed The Winter Soldier - and they will go on to direct both part of Avengers: Infinity War.
James Gunn is also set to return to direct Guardians of the Galaxy after he steered the first film to both critical and commercial success last year.
Scott Derrickson is one of the new names on board as he is set to start work on Doctor Strange in the autumn. The movie will see him team up with Benedict Cumberbatch as he is set to take on the title role. Peyton Reed
Thor: Ragnarok is another of the big films on the Marvel slate, but there is currently no director attached. The movie is set to hit the big screen in 2017.
We will have to wait and see if DuVernay is brought on board to helm a future Marvel film, but she certainly would be an exciting addition to the universe.
