Anthony Russo reveals that he likes the 'difficult place' that the Avengers were left in at the end of Captain America: Civil War.
Anthony and Joe Russo are set to take over the director's chair for Avengers: infinity War, which will see the fallout from Civil War continue.
The director admits that they have left themselves in a tricky position with these characters, but admits that he and his brother love that challenge.
Speaking about the differences between our heroes, the director told the Independent: "There's a writing adage that says 'write yourself into a corner.' My brother and I have always loved that adage. That was one of our favourite things about Civil War - that it ended in a difficult place where it's hard to imagine what the road forward exactly is for both Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and these two sides that have suffered the consequences of this division.
"On a storytelling level, it is a very difficult place and yes, that is very much the condition of the world as we move forward after Civil War. This very much sets the stage for where Infinity War begins - it's a place of a strong divide."
Avengers: Infinity War is already one of the most talked about films, despite the fact that it has not started filming and won't be released until 2018.
It is set to be a two-part movie that will bring to a close the Infinity Stone thread that has been running through many of the recent films.
The Russo brothers take over the Avengers from Joss Whedon for the first time in what will be their third film for Marvel; they have already steered Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War to both critical and commercial success in recent years.
However, the pair is yet to announce who will be on the film's cast list. Vin Diesel did reveal last month that we will see the Guardians step out of their franchise for the first time.
Filming is set to start at the beginning of next year.
Avengers: Infinity War is released 27th April 2018.
