Jolie returned to the director's at the end of 2014 with Second World War drama Unbroken. which came three years after she made her debut with In the Land of Blood and Honey.

And it seems that behind the camera is where Jolie's heart now lies because of the freedom that comes with being a filmmaker.

Speaking to Elle.com, Jolie said: "I prefer directing to acting. There is huge freedom that comes from being behind the camera. It brings a lot of responsibilities as well, but is intensely rewarding.

"Particularly the chance to help draw out the best in young actors, like Jack O'Connell in Unbroken, who is a remarkable talent."

Going forward, we are going to be seeing more of Jolie in the director's chair as she has already completed work on By the Sea.

The film, in which she also stars, in currently in post-production and will see her direct husband Brad Pitt for the first time. It will also be the first time that they have shared the screen together since Mr & Mrs Smith.

Jolie has penned the screenplay as well as being in the director's chair and the movie will be set in France in the mid 1970s. Jolie and Pitt will play husband and wife who are travelling around the country together but drifting apart at the same time.

The movie is expected to be release this year but no official UK release date has been announced.

And Jolie will be back in the director's chair with Africa, which will follow Richard Leakey fight against ivory poachers in Kenya. No cast for Africa has yet been announced.
