The 33-year-old actor has been cast in the upcoming drama production, which he is also set to co-produce as well, and the film will explore the life and tragic death of a real-life Afghanistan war correspondent Carlos Mavroleon.

According to Deadline, the movie will follow Carlos' career change from being a glamorous trader on Wall Street in New York to being engrossed in the brutalities of the fight as he reports on the conflicted war zones from the highly dangerous and treacherous location.

The plot will also see Carlos undergo a task to secretly infiltrate an area the Afghanistan troops were in directly after the 1998 missile strikes, which were requested by the former American President Bill Clinton, against Osama Bin Laden's camps following a string of attacks on the American Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

This venture was in a bid to divulge more information about any connections between Pakistan and the Al-Qaeda, and made Carlos one of the first journalists who was able to uncover such vital facts.

After uncovering some valuable details Carlos was tragically found dead in a motel in Peshawar days after the assignment, and it was reported his death was described as being under mysterious circumstances.

Garfield will be assisted by Rupert Fowler and Taplin Lundberg on the production team for the forthcoming production, which has received the backing from Stay Gold Features.

Whilst Nicolas Mavroleon, Aidan Hartley and Alessandro Camon, who will also pen the script, will executive produce the production.

However, a release date for the movie has yet to be confirmed.
