Andrew Garfield has just finished filming new movie Silence and the first image from the film has been released.
Silence sees the British actor team up with director Martin Scorsese for the first time as the filmmaker has realised his dream of bring the novel by Shûsaku Endô to the big screen.
Garfield stars alongside Adam Driver as two Jesuit priests who travel to Japan when reports reach them that their mentor has turned from the Church. The pair face violence and persecution as they try to spread Christianity in Japan.
And Garfield features in this first image that has been released by Entertainment Weekly.
An exciting cast has been assembled for Silence as Garfield and Driver are joined by Liam Neeson, Ciarán Hinds, Tadanobu Asano, and Rich Graff.
Silence is set to be the first film from Scorsese since he enjoyed critical and commercial success with The Wolf of Wall Street back in 2014 and it has taken twenty years for the director to finally complete work on this movie.
Silence is also set to be the most challenging role of Garfield's career and could take that career in a very different direction - I really am very excited to see him tackling a role such as this.
Silence is set for a 2016 release but no official UK release date has yet been announced.
