Amy Adams is in talks to star in new film Story of Your Life.
The movie would see Adams team up with director Dennis Villeneuve for the first time, as he brings the short story by Ted Chaing to the big screen.
The story is set at a time after alien crafts land around the world. An expert linguist - who Adams would play - is recruited by the military to figure out whether they are a threat or have come in peace.
As she slowly learns to communicate with the aliens, she is subjected to a series of vivid flashbacks that are key to understanding the mystery behind the real purpose of their visit.
Chaing's story has been adapted for the big screen by Eric Heisserer, while Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are set to produce.
Villeneuve brought us the fantastic Prisoners last year, and is back in 2014 with Enemy; the film sees him reunite with Jake Gyllenhaal.
As for Adams, it has already been a busy year having picked up a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her work in the critically acclaimed American Hustle.
She has also completed work on Lullaby and Big Eyes; the latter seeing her work with Tim Burton.
Adams is also set to reprise the role of Lois Lane in the Man of Steel sequel. Zack Snyder is back in the director's chair, while Henry Cavill will return as Clark Kent.
