American Sniper

American Sniper has jumped up twenty places at the U.S. box office to claim the number one spot.

The movie was received a limited release before Christmas but enjoyed its first weekend on general release - and was a huge hit at the box office.

The movie took over $90 million just days after it picked up a string of Oscar nominations, including Best Motion Picture and Best Actor for Bradley Cooper.

Comedy The Wedding Ringer was the highest new entry inside the top ten at two, while British movie Paddington was also new in at number three.

Paddington is based on the books by Michael Bond and has already topped the UK box office. Taken 3 was last week's number one, but fell three places to this week's number four.

Selma was down three places this week at five, while there was no move for The Imitation Game as it stayed put at six.

Selma and The Imitation Game were both in the Oscar mix when the nominations were announced last week - both of which were nominated for Best Picture.

Into The Woods and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies were both down four places this week as they slipped down the chart to seven and eight.

Angelina Jolie's Unbroken was also down four places, as it dropped from five to nine. Blackchat was the third and final new entry inside the top ten at ten.
