American Sniper has retained the number two spot for the second week, holding off the challenge from Jennifer Lopez's new film The Boy Next Door.

American Sniper has been embroiled in some controversy over the last week or so, but that has not stopped film fans flocking to see the latest offering from director Clint Eastwood.

The movie took a further $64.3 million over the weekend to comfortably hold onto the number one spot. The Boy Next Door was this week's highest new entry as it opened at number two.

Lopez has been on the promotional trail in recent weeks, and the new film, took $21 million in its opening weekend. This is Lopez's first movie since Parker back in 2013.

There was no move for Paddington at number three, while comedy The Wedding Ringer was down two places from two to four.

Taken was down one place at five, while The Imitation Game was also a none-mover at six this week. Animation film Strange Magic was the second new entry in at seven.

Selma was one of the biggest fallers this week, as it was down three places from five to seven. Despite Johnny Depp leading the cast list, Mortdecai struggled in its opening weekend as it opened at nine.

Into The Woods was also a three place faller this weekend, as it dropped from seven to ten.
