Alicia Vikander has revealed that she hopes the new Lara Croft movie will bring something 'new' and 'fresh' to this popular character.
It was announced earlier this year that the Oscar-winning actress has landed the role of Lara Croft in a film that will reboot the Tomb Raider film franchise.
While Vikander may not have been the most obvious choice for this role, I cannot wait to see her tackle this interesting and complex character - personally, I am looking forward to seeing her play Croft and lead a huge action franchise.
Speaking about the role of Hitfix, the actress said: "They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013 that is more of an origin story.
"You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that'll stand on its own two legs."
This will be the first time that we have seen the character of Lara Croft on the big screen since Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life back in 2003, in which Angelina Jolie played the title role.
So far, Vikander is the only official member of the cast while Roar Uthaug is in the director's chair. This is the fifth feature film for the director and the first since The Wave in 2015.
The movie is currently in pre-production and is not set to hit the big screen until 2018.
It has already been a successful year for Vikander, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in The Danish Girl.
She is set to return to the big screen this summer with Jason Bourne. Starring alongside Matt Damon, she is one of the big new additions to the cast list.
The actress has also completed work on Tulip Fever, Submergence and The Light Between Oceans, which is already bring tipped as a potential Oscar contender.
